About Me

Author Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick lives with his lovely wife, and their two boys, in Southwest Colorado. Born and raised in Oklahoma as the 60’s loomed, Joel has found a home at times in Kansas City, San Francisco, and now Colorado. An avid, early reader, his favorite books have always been classics, and modern, quirky authors who explore the boundaries of creative writing. The explosion of extraordinary Science Fiction during the 70’s and 80’s, made him a devoted fan of the genre, and he found a love for tales of early exploration and discovery. Having read master works by Philip K. Dick, Piers Anthony, Harlan Ellison and others, Joel even lugged around every issue of Omni magazine for years, because of the fiction they showcased, until those magazines nearly turned to dust.

Educated first in the structures of print Journalism, before the dawn of the computer age, Joel gladly moved his attentions to the energy industry where technical writing is a must and computers were taking over. An admitted geek, his interest in graphics, and geography grew into two decades of creating maps for pipeline construction, and writing the technical documents necessary to those projects. But his interest in the wonders of science and discovery has never faded.

After years of writing to specific constraints, his own works happily explore several different genres. He has continued to re-read his lifetime favorite works, and has grown to enjoy this new century’s explosion of great writing, sharing as much of it with his boys as they can stand. His work to assist JournalStone Publishing in acquiring new talent is a welcome, exciting new experience.
