Is it possible that a guy can pick out shoes? Every single time that I pick out a pair of shoes and buy them without input from a women I am chastised for my lack of good taste. I am a decent looking guy. I have a sense of style. I get along in life with a relatively adequate outward appearance. It isn’t like I walk around with a mullet and drive a 1970′s Camaro. No offense to all you rednecks out there. I am from Southern Illinois so being a former redneck I can say whatever I damn well want to about the degeneration of middle America’s Caucasian male population.
So if I hold down a decent job, make a good living, buy clothes from some of the higher end stores like Payless and Ross (Jesus people I am just joking, like Nordstrom’s and Macy’s shouldn’t I be on the right track. Yet every time I wear a pair of shoes I face the butt of derogatory comments from the female population. Putting this to a test I went out recently and bought four new pair of shoes. I took my girlfriend with me and listened to her pointed advice as she steered me in the direction of shoes I would not naturally gravitate.
I then wore them to work and without asking suddenly received comments on my footwear like I never had before. Is there some class or something on shoe styles that all women go to? Is it simply because women buy thousands of shoes in their lifetime so they have an innate ability to sense what is a good shoe versus a bad shoe. Who in the hell even makes bad shoes. Why don’t we have a panel of women reviewing all shoe designs and just keep the shoes off the market that are appalling to begin with? What if I opened a shoe store for men and called it the “Predefined Approved Shoes for Men”. I could market the panel of women theory and make a fortune.
Weren’t shoes once invented to simply protect our feet from the elements so we could walk form point a to point z a little easier? When did they become a statement for who we are and what level of status we have attained in societies hierarchal social circles? If you are a man have you entered your closet lately and added up the disparity of shoes your wife/girlfriend maintains versus what you are allowed to even own. I mean holy shit, all women seem to possess at a minimum 30 to 40 pair. What can you possible even do with that many shoes?
Luckily I now have four pair of acceptable footwear so I am good for a couple of years. I will get back to you then and let you know if I have made in progress in understating the criteria that we are judged by but I wouldn’t hold my breath. At my age if I haven’t figured out the system I most likely never will. I guess I am lucky that I now have a wonderful woman who can tell me what to do. I mean help guide me to bettering myself. Sorry I lost track of what I was saying there for a second.
At least I am not Catholic. Have you seen the shoes those nuns wear?
